The superheroes might get a lot of the ink, but one of the biggest sci-fi sequels on display at New York Comic Con is all about the monkey business.
We caught up with War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves and producer Dylan Clark to talk about the eagerly anticipated sequel, which fill finally bring the all-out war for the planet between the apes and the remaining remnants of humanity. Both men lauded mo-cap master Andy Serkis for bringing the ape leader Caesar to life, and teased how the addition of a few new characters (namely Woody Harrelson’s military leader) will reshape the world.
It sounds like the next step in Caesar’s journey will be a revenge story, as he seeks vengeance against Harrelson’s character for the losses he has dealt the ape population since the last film. It’s amazing how this franchise has managed to mine the classic Planet of the Apes franchise for some truly compelling stories, and War looks like it might be the biggest yet.
