Along with the massive Rebirth relaunch, DC Comics is also moving ahead with the ambitious third installment in Frank Miller’s Dark Knight series. So what does Miller think about playing in DC’s toy box once again?
We caught up with Miller and co-writer Brian Azzarello at New York Comic Con to talk about what’s coming next in Dark Knight III: The Master Race, as well as the legacy of Miller’s saga set in the future of the DC universe. The duo address the challenges in telling an “epic” with Dark Knight Returns III, what it’s like for Batman to take on the surrogate role of a father, and Carrie Kelly’s place as (they argue) the “greatest Robin” of all.
The two legends also look at the wider pantheon of comics, and explain the difference between DC and Marvel heroes (and the differences within DC’s own roster). They touch on the contrast of someone like Green Arrow, who is a hero, while a character like Superman who is essentially a god among men. Oh, and Brother Geek and Bouncing Boy even get some love.
Miller also drops some intel on a mysterious new Superman project he’s currently pitching to DC. Yeah, we’re gonna need some more intel on that one.
