First look at Mark Waid's relaunched, flagship Avengers comic set after Civil War II

Eisner-winning comic writer Mark Waid has been writing All New, All Different Avengers for a while — and now we have a first look at his next flagship Avengers series set in the wake of Civil War II.

Once the Civil War II event wraps up, Waid will be writing both the new (simply titled) Avengers series and the new Champions series that focuses on some of the Marvel universe's younger heroes (including a few current members of Waid’s old All New, All Different Avengers roster, such as Ms. Marvel, Nova and Miles Morales).

The first arc of Avengers will feature the new line-up of Captain America, Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, Thor, The Vision, The Wasp and Hercules as they battle with classic comic baddie Kang the Conqueror. Marvel promises “not a one of these valiant heroes will make it to the final page alive,” so we should certainly be expecting some high stakes and crazy time-travel fun.

As for the remnants of Civil War II? Marvel teases the team will be “shattered by war, their spirits weighed down by tolls both personal and spiritual.” Yeah, it sounds like the high cost of Civil War II is only getting started.

The first issue of Avengers hits comic shelves Nov. 2.
