The Walking Dead comic and TV show will have different endings

It’s the biggest show on television, but before AMC turned The Walking Dead into a series, it was trucking along as a hit comic series. So what happens when both stories come to an end?

Creator Robert Kirkman broached the topic on AMC’s Geeking Out series, and revealed he does know how he wants the comic series to end — but that doesn't mean the TV show will follow the same arc. Kirkman said he tries to keep the stories separate in his mind, and to that end, he doesn’t want The Walking Dead TV series to “steal” his ending for the comic.

Here’s an excerpt from his comments:

“I know how I want to end The Walking Dead, the book. But I can’t tell anyone, because I don’t want it on the show before I get it in the comic. So if the show were to ever end, ever, at any point, and the comic was still going, I would have to sit down with Scott [Gimple] and pretend that I have no idea how to end it and work with him to try and come up with a new ending.”

Considering how far the story has come on television, and the various differences that now exist, it’s no surprise the comic and television show could have different endings. There are different players in different places, and if anything, it’d almost feel clunky to try and fit both puzzle pieces into the same space.
