Looks like 20th Century Fox may have found Tim Miller’s replacement for Deadpool 2.
According to Mashable, the studio is currently eyeing John Wick co-helmer David Leitch to sit in the director’s chair for the hotly anticipated Deadpool sequel starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With a Mouth. Nothing's been officially confirmed yet, so don't forget to take the news with the appropriate dose of salt.
Earlier this week, Tim Miller left the project over creative differences with Reynolds. Those differences apparently included the casting of Cable (Miller wanted Kyle Chandler, Reynolds didn’t) and the scale of the new film (Miller wanted to go big, Reynolds, again, didn’t).
Although Mashable says there are other directors in the mix (according to Deadline, they would be The Martian screenwriter and The Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard, and Luke Cage helmer Magnus Martens), it seems that Fox is keen on snatching Leitch, a stunt coordinator and stuntman with whom the studio has had a longstanding work relationship. Leitch has worked on Daredevil and X-Men Origins: Wolverine for the studio, where Leitch worked with Reynolds.
He even worked as a second unit director on The Wolverine, Jurassic World and Captain America: Civil War. That’s a pretty impressive geek-cred calling card, don’t you think? His upcoming directing gigs include: The Coldest City with Charlize Theron and James McAvoy; the Chris Pratt-starrer Cowboy Ninja Viking with John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski; and Bloodshot for Sony. Of the three films, the last two are also comic book movies.
What do you think of David Leitch as director for Deadpool 2?
