J.J. Abrams finally explains Star Wars: The Force Awakens' shocking death

Along with making all the money and reviving the franchise for a new generation, Star Wars: The Force Awakens also featured one of the most shocking deaths in franchise history. Now the director has finally opened up about what was happening out there on that catwalk.

J.J. Abrams’ first commentary of the film is being bundled in the 3D release of The Force Awakens, which hits shelves Nov. 15 in the U.S., and the director said there was absolutely a “raw uncertainty” in the scene where Kylo Ren kills his father, Han Solo. The scene has been hotly debated ever since the film premiered, as fans wondered if Kylo was luring Han into a trap, or if he truly was conflicted.

Here’s an excerpt from Abrams’ commentary via USA Today:

“People have asked me if I think Kylo Ren was just playing with him the whole time, and if he meant to kill him from the beginning. The truth is, I think Kylo Ren, in this moment, is actually being convinced to walk away from this. Snoke is, as Han says, using him. I think somewhere, Ben knows this. But I think he can’t accept it, deep down, he has gone too far."

What’s your take on Abrams’ comments? Is that how you interpreted the scene?
