The Force is strong with the final trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Disney and Lucasfilm have unleashed a new official trailer and poster for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), the new movie set in a galaxy far, far away takes place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope and centers on a band of Rebels tasked with the dangerous mission of retrieving the plans for the Empire’s brand-new weapon, the Death Star.

In the action-packed trailer below, we finally have a first real look at Jyn Erso’s (Felicity Jones) father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), the man behind the construction of the Death Star, and Forest Whitaker's guerrilla freedom fighter Saw Gerrera, who happens to be a character first introduced in animated form in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. We also get more of Ben Mendelsohn's Director Orson Krennic and of our boy Darth Vader! Frankly, the whole thing is giving me some amazingly delicious New Hope vibes.

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story also stars Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed and Jiang Wen. The movie is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. It'll blast onto movie theaters Dec. 16.
