Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them no longer a trilogy but 5 films + new featurette

Lumos Maxima! There was a huge Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them global fan event earlier today (thank you, Warner Bros.) where Much Was Revealed and a new video featurette boasting tons of new footage was released.

Remember when Fantastic Beasts was recently revealed as a trilogy of films? Yeah. Well, you guys can scrap that, because J.K. Rowling has just announced that we’ll now be getting not three but five (yep, five!) spinoff movies set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, following the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne).

The movie will also feature two exciting cameo appearances: one by a young Albus Dumbledore (who is name-dropped in the featurette) and the other by dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (I wonder if Jamie Campbell Bower will reprise the role). It was also revealed that the second movie will take place in another major global city (this one takes place in New York City in the 1920s).

The video below features interviews with Rowling, director David Yates and stars Redmayne, Colin Farrell (Percival Graves) and Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone), as well as plenty of new footage to sink our teeth into. Also, check out the new movie poster and nine new character posters in the gallery below.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will open on Nov. 18, while the sequel is slated for Nov. 18, 2018.
