Syfy rounds out cast of Superman prequel Krypton with Thrones alum, Zod's ancestor

After casting the lead role of Superman’s ancestor in Krypton, Syfy has filled out the rest of the supporting cast for the DC Comics adaptation.

The studio has announced the casting of Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones), Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons), Ann Ogbomo (World War Z), Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness), Wallis Day (The Royals) and Aaron Pierre (Tennison). The stars join the previously announced casting of Cameron Cuffe in the lead role of Superman’s grandfather Seg-El, and Georgina Campbell as military cadet Lyta Zod, who is having a forbidden romance with Seg-El.

The series itself is set in the distant past of the Superman universe, a full two generations before the destruction of Krypton. It’ll tell a sweeping, politically tinged story about the House of El being ostracized, and Seg-El’s battle to restore the family’s honor.

Here are the official character descriptions:

Ian McElhinney (Val-El): Grandfather to Seg-El, Val-El is a rogue genius who believes that space exploration is a basic form of self-defense, and he has tried, without success, to warn the Kryptonian elite about the arrival of an ancient threat.

Elliot Cowan (Daron Vex): The Chief Magistrate of Kandor, Daron Vex’s real business is defending Krypton’s established oligarchy against heretics and dissidents.

Ann Ogbomo (Primus Alura Zod): Lyta Zod’s mother and a leader of Krypton’s military guild, Alura is an extremely tough and demanding training officer.

Rasmus Hardiker (Kem): The rank-less Kem is a brilliant engineer as well as Seg-El’s best friend and partner in an underground tech-repair business.

Wallis Day (Nyssa Vex): A junior magistrate and the daughter of Daron Vex.

Aaron Pierre (Dev-Em): A cadet under the command of Primus Alura Zod.

The network (Corporate owner of Blastr- Ed.) is currently preparing to shoot the pilot for Krypton.
