Though the movie didn’t exactly light the box office on fire, the Tom Cruise vehicle Edge of Tomorrow was a surprisingly fun and competent sci-fi flick. For all its cool parts, the exosuits the soldiers wear to fight off the alien invaders might just be the coolest.
Well, artist/metal worker/cosplayer Peter Kokis decided to build his own. Even better? He mostly just used household junk, ranging from toy truck parts to hockey gear and radiator knobs. The craftsmanship on this 134-pound cosplay suit is absolutely amazing. Of course, it probably wouldn’t prove too handy on the battlefield, but it definitely looks the part.
In a chat with io9, Kokis said he saw the debut trailer for Edge of Tomorrow, loved the look of the mech suits and started mapping out how he could build his own that very week. Kokis said it took him approximately 300 man-hours to complete the suit, and seeing just how detailed it actually is, we’re inclined to believe him.
This is the perfect example of when that sweet spot of handiness and geekiness line up perfectly. Well done, sir.
