Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny + 16 more movies and shows hitting Netflix in February

Every month, Netflix makes changes to its always-popular streaming service, and that means that while some movies and shows disappear, new ones pop up to take their place. So, to help you plan all those long hours on the couch, we like to take a look at the new offerings and round up the genre movies and shows arriving each month.

Unfortunately, February brings with it the loss of Doctor Who on Netflix, something I'm sure many of you are mourning, but fear not: There's plenty more to watch. It's a pretty crowded crop this month, with several new and returning TV shows, an original-cast Star Trek flick and, most importantly, the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon landing just before March.

Check out Netflix's latest genre offerings below. Happy bingeing.

The Lizzie Borden Chronicles (2015)

This Lifetime miniseries isn't as genre-fied as a lot of stuff we cover here, but it does provide a horrific alternate history for the later life of possible ax murderer Lizzie Borden, and it is bloody fun, so I'm including it.

Armageddon (1998)

I know, if you're the kind of person who really hates the Michael Bay Transformers flicks, that you might not believe me when I tell you that this film is still all kinds of fun. Give it another shot, though, because there's something about its ambitious '90s action vibe that really does still work. Crank up the Aerosmith power ballad and go for it.

Sin City (2005)

Though its sequel didn't live up to the anticipation that preceded it, this Robert Rodriguez adaptation (with a little help from Quentin Tarantino) of Frank Miller's comic-book ode to film noir features classic moment after classic moment. Sometimes it's a celebration of noir cinema; other times it's a comic-book panel come to life.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989)

Star Trek V is still considered one of the weakest films in the franchise, and being bookended by the fan-favorite Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and the surprisingly underrated Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country doesn't do it any favors. Sure, it has plenty of weaknesses, but ... come on, it's an original-cast Star Trek movie. You know you wanna rewatch it.

Stardust (2007)

While we're waiting for the adaptations of Neil Gaiman classics like Sandman and American Gods, we can revisit this whimsical fantasy flick, which marks the beginning of Matthew Vaughn's rise as a genre director, and features delightful work from Claire Danes, Daredevil, himself, Charlie Cox, and Robert DeNiro as a pirate of the skies.

Tin Man (2007)

We've seen a lot of revinventions of L. Frank Baum's Oz universe over the years, but few ever went quite as far as this one. It's got a terrific cast and a genre-bending eye that, even if you end up not liking it, will at the very least make you think.

The Returned, Season 2 (2015), Available February 17

If you still haven't caught up with this French series about people mysteriously returning to life and the even more mysterious events that follow, now's your chance. We still don't know if we'll get a Season 3, but it's definitely worth a look.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016), Available February 26

This might be the centerpiece of Netflix's February releases that isn't named Fuller House: A sequel to the phenomenal and immensely acclaimed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon directed by legendary fight choreographer Yuen Woo-ping (those amazing fight scenes in Kill Bill? That was him.), adapted from the final book in Wang Dulu's Iron-Crane series of novels. Once again, the action looks spectacular and the mythology is all there. The only difference is it's in English this time, which could be a little strange for fans of the original film. We'll see.
