When the biggest idiots in the galaxy finally return for a brand-new cosmic adventure in director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, things will get a little more crowded.
A new report over at Geek.com (these guys have been pumping out Marvel scoops by the handful these past few days) claims that the movie will add not one but three more members to the original team lineup in order to face off against rumored villain Ego, The Living Planet.
So, who are the characters joining Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) aboard the Milano?
The site report claims that Yondu (Michael Rooker), Mantis (heavily rumored to be played by Canadian actress Pom Klemtieff) and Gamora’s sister, Nebula (Karen Gillan) will come aboard Quill's beloved ship for the Guardians' second outing. Yep, you read that right: Nebula. Reuniting the two sisters and making them work together after the events of the first movie should make for a lot of fun, though I'm sure Nebula will have her own agenda. Of the three, the only new character is Mantis, who has been rumored to appear in the sequel for AGES.
In the Marvel comics, Mantis is a telepath and an empath with the power to do astral projections. She's also a badass grandmaster martial artist with the ability to control plants and vegetation — which should come in handy for Groot, who was last seen as the cutest dancing twig ever. Not only was she a Guardians team member, but she was also part of the Avengers and the West Coast Avengers. In recent years, she has had a history with Yondu, with whom she shares a friendly rivalry and close friendship.
So, there you have it. As always, this is a rumor, so you know the drill. What do you think of this new possible team lineup?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will blast into theaters on May 5, 2017.
