The Wonder Woman movie has finally cast its Queen Hippolyta!

Great Hera! Warner Bros.’ highly anticipated Wonder Woman movie has finally found its Queen Hippolyta.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Danish actress Connie Nielsen has been cast as the Amazon Princess’ mom in director Patty Jenkins’ superhero movie starring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. The DC Comics movie is currently filming in the UK and Italy, with a release date slated for June 23, 2017.

Nielsen is mostly known for her role of Lucilla in director Ridley Scott’s Gladiator alongside Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, but she’s had recent stints on The Following and The Good Wife. She also starred in the sci-fi movie Mission to Mars back in 2000. Personally, I think Nielsen is the perfect choice to play the Queen of the Amazons, since she always had such a regal quality to her performances. Well played, WB.

Also starring in the movie is Chris Pine (who recently confirmed -- again -- that the movie will be set during World War I) as Diana’s love interest Captain Steve Trevor, Robin Wright (who was rumored for the role of Hippolyta), Danny Huston, David Thewlis and Ewen Bremner.

Are you excited to see Connie Nielson play Queen Hippolyta in Wonder Woman?
