With film sequel unlikely, Dredd fans now fighting for TV continuation

Hollywood isn’t fair, and the fact that Dredd was a box-office bomb is an absolute travesty. But the mid-budget sci-fi flick has earned its share of fans — and they’re not ready to give up just yet.

Fans have been pushing for a film sequel ever since the 2012 flick opened, and with that apparently off the table, the fan community has turned its attention to TV; namely, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime (or maybe HBO). The fans note that, with the success of shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones and The Man in the High Castle, a project like Dredd would be a perfect fit.

Specifically, the campaign is pushing for a continuation of the canon established in the 2012 film, with Karl Urban taking on the role of the legendary future-cop. The film was a critical hit and found even more fans upon home video release, but crashed and burned on the big screen. Obviously, any fan campaign to revive a project is a long shot (especially one based on a film that did poorly), but nothing is out of the realm of possibility these days.

If nothing else, the “Bring Back Dredd” movement will keep the project in the public consciousness, and potentially even attract some new fans (seriously, go watch the movie) along the way.
