Creed director Ryan Coogler confirmed to helm Marvel's Black Panther!

It’s official! Marvel has tapped Creed director Ryan Coogler to helm its upcoming Black Panther movie featuring T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), the Prince of Wakanda. Coogler’s name has been floating around for a couple of months now, but Marvel has finally made it official and put a ring on it and announced the awesome news last evening.

If you look at Coogler's IMDb page, you can see he only has two major movies under his belt: Fruitvale Station (2013) and Creed (2015), both starring Fantastic Four's Michael B. Jordan. Fruitvale Station is a low-budget, award-winning feature film that Coogler wrote and directed, and Creed is a critically acclaimed movie that earned Sylvester Stallone a Golden Globe for best supporting actor this past Sunday. Not bad!

Also, as we all know by now, Marvel Studios likes to take chances with lesser-known directors. Case in point? The Russo Brothers, who were a big whopping gamble for the studio when they were hired to helm Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But look at them now! All set to helm Marvel's most ambitious movie project ever with the two-parter Avengers: Infinity War, right after Captain America: Civil War hits the screens on May 6.

Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige said in a statement:

“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’  Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”

As for Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther, the character is set to make his hotly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe debut this year in Captain America: Civil War before headlining his very own movie on Feb. 16, 2018.

Are you excited that Ryan Coogler is on board to helm Marvel’s Black Panther?
