TV THIS WEEK: Shadowhunters premieres, Colony arrives, and more!

We're still in the midst of winter break for a good many of our shows, but some new series are arriving this week to make things more interesting. Over the next few days, we'll see the premieres of ShadowhuntersColony and Second Chance, as well as the season finale of American Horror Story, a full week of Adventure Time, a tribute to David Bowie, and more!

Check out the week in TV below. What's on your watchlist?

Shadowhunters (Freeform) Tuesday, 9 p.m. - "The Mortal Cup"

Series premiere! - Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series is one of the most popular YA franchises in publishing, so it seemed like the first film adaptation -- 2013's The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones -- would be a home run. That ... didn't happen, but hope is not lost for fans. Thanks to Freeform (formerly ABC Family), the series has a second chance at adaption with this series, which follows a young woman (Katherine McNamara) who discovers that she's a human-angel hybrid, and joins a group of demon hunters to save her mother. Will it work this time? We don't know, but Freeform's had a lot of original programming success in recent years, so it might end up being a safer bet than the movie. Check out a preview below.

Ziggy Stardust (VH1 Classic) Tuesday, 10:30 p.m.

David Bowie alert! - As we all know by now, the world lost David Bowie on Sunday, and many of us have spent the last 18 hours or so talking about what he meant to us. Here at Blastr, we're acutely aware of Bowie's contributions to the world of science fiction, and it seems VH1 Classic is too. Tuesday night, the channel will air the Ziggy Stardust concert film from 1983, documenting Bowie's final appearance as the title character at London's legendary Hammersmith Odeon. So, if you're up for a blend of sci-fi performance art and rock music, check it out.

Second Chance (FOX) Wednesday, 9 p.m. - "A Suitable Donor"

Series premiere! - This is an interesting one, particularly in light of the failure of recent FOX genre series like Minority Report. When it started development this show was known as The Frankenstein Code, then it became Lookinglass, and now it's Second Chance, so we'll forgive you for any confustion about exactly what this show is and where it came from. It is indeed still based, however loosely, on the novel Frankenstein, and tells the story of a 75-year-old man who, after being publicly disgraced and killed, gets a "second chance" by being transplanted into a younger body by a couple of billionaires. Yeah, it might sound like the premise for a comedy (and indeed, a version of it has been a couple of times), but if done right this could be a fascinating meditation on the nature of mortality ... that is, if FOX ever lets it just be one thing.

American Horror Story: Hotel (FX) Wednesday, 10 p.m. - "Be Our Guest"

Season finale! - American Horror Story might not have the same ratings dazzle as, say, The Walking Dead, but it remains an unstoppable ratings force for its network and its timeslot. Hotel picked up nearly 6 million live viewers with its premiere, and kept piling up strong Live+3 and Live+7 numbers in every subsequent episode. Then, last night, it earned a Golden Globe thanks to Lady Gaga. The show is riding high, a sixth season is already on the way, and there's no reason for fans to do anything but sit back and enjoy. Check out a preview below.

Colony (USA) Thursday, 10 p.m. - "Pilot"

Series premiere! - Lost's Josh Holloway and The Walking Dead's Sarah Wayne Callies team up for this new genre series, set in a near-future Los Angeles which has been occupied by a mysterious force. We haven't really seen that much to lay out a whole bunch of Colony details, but we do know that a pilot screening at New York Comic-Con was very well received, and that the show sports some real genre cred, and that its premise is intriguing enough to rope us in. Beyond that, just check out a preview and decide what you think.
