The second season of Agent Carter is set to introduce Marvel Comics supervillain Madame Masque as the baddie Peggy (Hayley Atwell) will square off against. But will she get to wear the iconic gold mask she sports in the pages of the comic books?
Executive producer Michele Fazekas has the answer.
The character has — of course — been reinvented for the Marvel series set in 1940s Hollywood. This time Whitney Frost is an actress, played by Wynn Everett. Fazekas told Entertainment Weekly:
“She never wears a gold mask, but you’ll see a nod to that,” EP Michele Fazekas says. Mainly, Whitney is going to be a great foil for Carter this season. “They’re a very good match for each other,” Fazekas says. “Whitney is smart, and Peggy can see through Whitney’s façade of being a glamorous actress. Whitney is used to people treating her with a certain amount of deference, because she’s a famous actress, and she’s met her match in Peggy.”
Back in August, EP Tara Butters said of the villainess’ appearance that they had changed it a bit:
“I think we’ve changed the look of her a bit obviously. We’ve made her an actress, which is very Hedy Lamar. She was a ‘40s siren actress who was also a scientific genius, so that’s part of what we’re mining with this character. For me it is, because I feel like that is something that… as much as there are not enough female heroes just on television, I feel like having a female villain is just as equally powerful.”
Meet the totally glamorous 1940s version of Whitney Frost, aka Madame Masque.
Season 2 of Agent Carter will debut with a two-hour premiere on Jan. 19 on ABC.
