The Flash producer reveals how they'll bring Harrison Wells back for Season 2

Despite that jaw-dropping Season 1 finale, fan favorite Tom Cavanagh is definitely coming back for year two of The Flash. Now we have an inkling as to how they’ll pull it off.

Spoilers ahead for Season 1 of The The CW’s Flash!

Executive producer Gabrielle Stanton chatted with TV Line about Cavanagh’s return and revealed some juicy new details that start to make the whole conundrum look a bit clearer. If you’ll remember: Cavanagh’s Reverse-Flash/Eobard Thawne, who has been wearing the face of Harrison Wells for several years, disappeared out of existence after his ancestor, Eddie Thawne, sacrificed himself in the present.

So, how’s he coming back? According to Stanton, they’ll be taking advantage of those nifty alternate universes they introduced late in the season, and it seems the Harrison Wells we’ll be hanging out with in Season 2 is apparently not from our world. Another obvious question is whether the  Wells we meet in Season 2 will actually be the real Wells, or Thawne in disguise.

Check out her comments below:

“Harrison Wells will be back, but he’s going to be a very different Harrison Wells than we’ve seen before. We’ve got other worlds. We’ve got other timelines. All I’m going to say is he’s from one of those places.”

This definitely makes things a bit more interesting, and we’re even more curious now to know exactly how they’ll work this new-look Wells into the mix this fall. Eobard's version of faux-Wells was a key member of Team Flash, and besides that, Cavanagh is one heck of a good actor. No matter what they do with him, we're glad he'll be sticking around.

The Flash returns to The CW’s schedule Oct. 6.
