Tesla's insane, $130,000 Model X car has a bio weapon defense feature. Seriously.

When he’s not busy trying to colonize Mars with SpaceX, billionaire Elon Musk is also trying to save the world with his electric car company Tesla. The latest model might just be the coolest car ever conceived.

Dubbed the Model X, the new car is Tesla’s most advanced vehicle and looks to redefine the concepts of luxury and high-tech in regard to auto manufacturing. From an electric engine that can travel 250 miles between charges to a wicked huge panoramic windshield that lets you see pretty much everything, the Model X is awesome. But Tesla also made a point to sweat the small stuff. Heck, even the somewhat weird stuff.

Case in point: This car literally has a “bioweapon defense mode.” That is the actual name of the feature, and we are not kidding. Basically, it works like this: The Model X features one of the most advanced air filtering systems in existence, and when activated, it has features that can literally filter toxins out of the air in the event of a biological disaster. We’re assuming these features can also be activated when driving past a dead skunk (confirmation pending).

The company compares the filtering capabilities to what you’d find in a hospital containment room, and claims it is 300 times better at filtering bacteria, 500 times better at filtering allergens, 700 times better at filtering smog and 800 times better at filtering viruses. Why? Because it’s awesome, and also because Musk says Tesla wants to be “ a leader in apocalyptic defense scenarios.”

Lets just hope this apocalyptic scenario doesn’t knock out the electricity, or else you better pray that 250-mile charge is enough juice to escape the end of the world. If nothing else, that panoramic windshield will provide a stunning view of the end of the world.
