Powers casts Michael Madsen in the super role of SuperShock for Season 2

Season 2 of Powers has just added Michael Madsen (of Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill fame) to the cast of the superhero series in the key role of SuperShock.

One of the series' most mysterious and popular superheroes, SuperShock is described by PlayStation and Sony Pictures Television as "a perfect physical specimen with an unparalleled presence that catapulted him to global fame. After retiring at the height of his career under mysterious circumstances and disappearing from public view, he emerges for the first time in forty years after the death of Retro Girl."

The addition of the character had been previously announced by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming — the co-creators of the comic-book series on which the show is based — during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Here's what Bendis said of the character:

"Super-Shock is the most powerful superhero in the 'Powers' universe," Bendis explained. "With him comes a whole new set of problems and achievements. With Retro Girl's death, Super-Shock comes out of wherever he's been and we'll discover a lot about the 'Powers' universe through him and Walker and Deena's relationship."

"This is the biggest superhero in the world. Superheroes were named after him. He never took an advertisement dollar, he never was in product placement. He kept it pure for decades and decades."

Set to debut on the PlayStation Network in 2016, Season 2 of Powers is currently in production in Atlanta. Madsen joins a cast that includes Sharlto Copley, Susan Heyward, Noah Taylor, Michelle Forbes, Eddie Izzard and Justice Leak.

While the first season mostly stood on its own as an original story, Season 2 is set to follow the "Who Killed Retro Girl" storyline from the comics' first trade paperback run.

Do you think Michael Madsen will be a perfect SuperShock?
