We know Matt Damon from his work in the Bourne series, The Adjustment Bureau and the fabulous upcoming film The Martian. But had he chosen otherwise, we might have known him for his work as a Marvel superhero. And that role was …
… Daredevil, eponymous main character of the rather mediocre 2003 film.
According to the NY Daily News, Damon said,
“For us it was always ‘Daredevil’ — that’s the comic we read when we were kids,” says Damon. “But when that one came along (in 2003) I chickened out, because I couldn’t tell. I hadn’t seen the director (Mark Steven Johnson’s) work and I didn’t know. So I just said, ‘No.’ Ben was like, ‘I gotta do it.’
“And the movie ended up doing very well, even though I don’t think Ben was ultimately very proud of it.”
However, when it comes to playing the Man Without Fear, Damon said he would re-consider it under very special circumstances.
“If Chris Nolan came up to me and said, ‘I want to do Daredevil,’ I would be in.”
Sadly, there’s limited opportunity for Damon to play the role, now that the character is using his brains and brawn in the excellent Netflix series Daredevil. Matt Murdock is currently being played by Charlie Cox -- or will be, the moment Daredevil returns for a second season, sometime in 2016.
Do you think Damon made the right choice? Or would you rather have seen him, rather than his bestie, Ben Affleck, in the role?
