When I was in high school in 1979, there was no cooler movie to quote or go see multiple times than Walter Hill's The Warriors. It romanticized the notion of New York City gangs as comic-book antiheroes wandering a surreal urban landscape in the near future. I once even dressed up as one of the pinstripe-uniformed Baseball Furies for Halloween, even though they got their butts kicked in the park by the Warriors.
Here's a reunion video of the original cast taking one last subway ride out to Coney Island. Rolling Stone recorded this tribute piece on Sept. 13 during a fan-organized celebration that collected many of the film's now-middle-aged actors, like Michael Beck (Swan), Dorsey Wright (Cleon), Thomas G. Waties (Fox), David Harris (Cochise) and Terry Michos (Vermin). Have a look and tell us ... can you dig It?
Cue Joe Walsh's "In The City" anthem. Fade to black.
