Supergirl Season 1 teaser reveals new villains and new superpowers

Supergirl - Melissa Benoist

A brand-new trailer for CBS’ upcoming superhero series Supergirl has been released. The Season 1 trailer features lots of great never-before-seen footage that goes beyond the pilot episode, including a look at a few new superpowers for our girl Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) and a couple of upcoming villains.

Before I go on, I'm sure keen-eyed viewers will have spotted Hellgrammite (Justice Leak) and Reactron (Chris Browning) in the new one-minute promo!

Essentially a Superman villain created back in the 1960s, Hellgrammite was an entomologist by the name of Roderick Rose who treated himself to a serum that transformed his body horribly. Possessing superhuman strength and leaping abilities, he could also secrete adhesives and weave cocoons. Nope. Not gross at all. The DC Comics villain’s schemes often revolved around him transforming others into smaller and weaker versions of himself.

Reactron’s ability was to generate radiation from his body, which he can focus into concussive blasts. Equipped with a heart made of some sort of gold kryptonite (although he’s not seen wearing the golden armor he sports in the comics here), it allows him to render a Kryptonian powerless for 15 seconds. Calling himself Reactron, the Living Reactor, he battled the Doom Patrol, Power Girl and Supergirl.

Also in the new trailer is Maxwell Lord, played by Twilight's Peter Facinelli. Lord is a green tech billionaire who has a "friendly rivalry" with Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) and is said to be also fascinated by Supergirl.

Supergirl is set to premiere on Oct. 26 at 8:30 p.m. before moving to its regular 8 p.m. timeslot the following week.
