Booster Gold and Blue Beetle could be the next DC Comics heroes to get their own movie

It's no secret that Warner Bros. has laid out an ambitious superhero movie slate over the next few years that includes everything from the very first Justice League movie to solo adventures for everyone from Wonder Woman to the Flash, but what's not clear at this point is what lies beyond. Of course, we expect both Warner Bros. and Marvel Studios to keep expanding their superhero universes until it becomes clear audiences don't want them to anymore, but we really don't know for sure at this point what lies beyond about 2020 for either studio. Now a new report has given us at least a little bit of a clue.

The Tracking Board reports that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are developing a Blue Beetle/Booster Gold team-up film described as a "superhero buddy cop movie" with an emphasis on comedy. According to the report, Greg Berlanti -- best known among superhero fans as a writer and producer on Arrow and The Flash -- is on board to both direct and executive-produce.

For many longtime DC Comics fans, a "Blue and Gold" movie is a Holy Grail of sorts. The pair provided endless fun through their various comic-book adventures in Justice League International and beyond, and though the Ted Kord version of Blue Beetle hasn't been a comics force for some time now, the friendship remains a fan favorite. A comedic team-up movie for these two heroes, even if Blue Beeetle ended up being the Jaime Reyes incarnation of the character, could be a real breath of fresh air in the Warner Bros. movie universe.

Berlanti and Warner Bros. have yet to comment on the report.

What do you think? Is a Blue and Gold flick a good idea?
