Whedon breaks down the Infinity Stones and what comes next in Age of Ultron clip

A new behind-the-scenes clip from Avengers: Age of Ultron has surfaced, focusing in on the Infinity Stones that have made up the framework for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The footage features some in-depth interviews with Avengers director Joss Whedon and Age of Ultron producer Jeremy Latcham in which they dig into the history of the Infinity Stones and how they’ve adapted the Infinity Gems from the comics into the ultra-powerful MacGuffins we know and love. The 7+ minute clip is a fascinating look back to see how all the dots connect, from Captain America and Thor to the upcoming Infinity War two-parter slated for 2018 and 2019.

Here’s what Latcham had to say about the evolution of the concept:

“Since we’ve been building the Marvel Universe, we’ve been building towards this idea of the Infinity Stones. And what’s fun about the Infinity Stones in the comics, or Infinity Gems as they were known initially, is they’re this huge, incredibly powerful set of McGuffins, for lack of a better word, that kind of existed on this cosmic level and represented the culmination of the whole Marvel Universe. We hit upon the idea several years ago that we could make the Infinity Gauntlet the big, big thing that’s overarching in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe and kind of culminate in an Infinity War movie.”

Whedon also shows up in the clip, talking about how they’ve built Thanos into the framework of the MCU as a “grand puppetmaster” pulling the strings. Check out the featurette below and let us know what you think:
