Julie Benz teases a 'fractured' Defiance in upcoming Syfy season finale

The third season of Defiance comes to an end tonight, and co-star Julie Benz promises the epic faceoff between the townsfolk and man-eating alien Omec will not disappoint.

The Syfy (Corporate owner of Blastr -Ed.) series has dug deeper than ever into its mythology this season, bringing in a mythical race of super-aliens, and focusing on the internal and external politics between the various alien and human factions. It’s made for a good run, and Season 3 also brought some major cast shakeups that did a solid job of cranking up the tension and allowing supporting players to shine.

So, what’s in store for the finale? Benz (Amanda Rosewater) teased that the battle between Defiance and the newly awakened Omecs will definitely come to a head in the finale, promising “a lot” of Omec, and teasing that the plan to fight them off might not work as well as Nolan & Co. hope. Benz said we’ll see Amanda forced to face her role in letting the Omec into Defiance in the first place, and she also touched on how the purple-skinned aliens changed the dynamic of the show this year:

“[The Omec] were fantastic, they really were. It added an extra element of surprise, that there was another alien race out there. We had said that we established all the alien races, and then we brought in this one that nobody had heard of. And they’re the one species that everyone is afraid of. In many ways, they are the one thing that brings all the Votans together, because you have to unite to fight them. But yeah, they’re just awful. They’re like vampire aliens…

Amanda does her best to try to save the town, but we see her fractured a bit. We saw that unraveling of her in the last episode, because it’s all on her shoulders, what’s happening. She feels responsibility [for welcoming the Omec to Defiance], and it’s a large cross for her to bear.”

The season finale of Defiance airs tonight on Syfy. What did you think of the year so far?
