This Bond girl may go head to head with Gambit next

Gambit may have found his leading lady.

Deadline reports that French actress Lea Seydoux has gotten an offer from Fox to star as Bella Donna Boudreaux in Gambit. Two other actresses, Abbey Lee of Mad Max: Fury Road and Rebecca Ferguson of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, were up for the role, but Seydoux won the day.

Seydoux will be seen this November in Spectre, the new James Bond film, where she will play a character named Madeleine Swann. Her breakthrough performance came in 2013's ultra-steamy romance Blue Is the Warmest Color, which was about as far away from a Marvel superhero film as one can get.

Bella Donna was created in 1992 by Scott Lobdell and Jim Lee. She and Gambit, aka Remy LeBeau, met when they were children and became friends despite coming from different guilds -- she from the Assassins Guild and he from the Thieves.

The two became lovers despite essentially being enemies, although their relationship has gone through all the upheavals that one would expect after 23 years of comic books. Bella Donna is also a mutant who can fire plasma blasts and astrally project herself.

Seydoux will star alongside Channing Tatum, who is playing the title role in the Rupert Wyatt-directed movie. Filming starts this fall for an Oct. 7, 2016 release.
