Image of the Day: Plunge into a stunning new shot of the Lagoon Nebula

Few sights are more amazing to behold than the slew of sensational images captured by the array of NASA's orbiting observational the Solar Dynamics Observatory, Hubble Space Telescope and the Kepler Space Observatory.  To add to the awe-inspiring collection, here's a new shot snagged by an Earth-bound instrument of a fertile region of interstellar gas and whirling dust just 5,000 light-years from our planet.

Named the Lagoon Nebula, the gorgeous area of luminous young stars and immense swaths of glowing gas found in the constellation Sagittarius was taken by the 32-inch Schulman Telescope at the University of Arizona’s Mt. Lemmon SkyCenter.  Take a dip into this cool shot revealing the Lagoon Nebula's cosmic breeding ground and tell us if you feel mentally and physically refreshed from bathing in its flowing radiance.
