MMA champ Ronda Rousey lobbies for role of Captain Marvel in the MCU

Ronda Rousey’s fans know her as a mixed martial arts champion, as well as the first American to win an Olympic medal in women’s judo. But Ronda Rousey wants her fans to know her as something else a little more geek-oriented: Captain Marvel.

In a Reddit A.M.A., Rousey was asked which superhero she would like to play. She answered, “[W]ell…a lot of the good ones have been taken, but I’d like to vie for Miss Marvel.”

Then, in a move that’s both awesome and hilarious, her many fans embraced the statement and created fan art of her dressed as the superhero. Rousey then posted the images, which we have below, to her Instagram page. If this isn’t lobbying, we don’t know what is.

Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, developed her powers as a result of a genetic alteration, making her a human-Kree hybrid. In addition to her superheroic deeds with S.H.I.E.L.D., the Avengers and others, she has worked with the U.S. Air Force and NASA. We assume that the casting notice for this role reads, “Must be comfortable with fighting and physical activity.” Rousey fits this qualification perfectly.

Captain Marvel is scheduled for a release date of Nov. 2, 2018. Internet buzz suggests Emily Blunt is in the running for the role of Captain Marvel, formerly Ms. Marvel.
