Mad British architects and engineers try to construct $3 billion, life-size Minas Tirith replica

Meanwhile in England, while you're installing that new vanity in the guest bathroom, a Tolkien-loving team of engineers and architects is attempting the impossible feat of constructing a full-size version of the crowning jewel of Gondor, the White City of Minas Tirith.  The crowdfunding campaign launched by Realize Minas Tirith on Indiegogo is seeking the royal sum of $2.9 billion to complete this epic undertaking.  Plans call for the building of a thousand-foot stronghold castle replica of the legendary city from Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, comprised of residential living units, commercial spots, office space and a luxury penthouse condo.

Various reward levels grant you exclusive perks like all-access to the fictional city, free night stays, honorary plaques, named streets, private residences and even a $2.7 million suite.   Several potential sites in southern England have been scouted out and, with just 48 days left in the campaign, they've collected just $7,800.  With billions more to attract, chances are this wild dream will never be realized, but stranger things have happened, so keep plopping pennies in their wishing well and hope some wealthy angel investor donates a king's ransom.

Here's their mission statement from the official Indiegogo campaign site:

We are an ambitious team of architects and structural engineers who are passionate about creating a beautiful, inspirational and fully-functioning replica of Peter Jackson's depiction of Minas Tirith, as seen in his Lord of the Rings films.  We all share a love of Tolkien's work, and a desire to challenge the common perception of community and architecture. We believe that, in realising Minas Tirith, we can create not only the most remarkable tourist attraction on the planet, but also a wonderfully unique place to live and work. We aim to create both residential and commercial properties, allowing for sustainable growth and a high quality of life.  Residential properties will be categorised by tier, quality and size. Tiers vary from 1-5, quality varies from 2-5 stars, with the higher star denoting higher quality, and size varies from 1-4 bedrooms.

What do you think of this impossible project's chances of becoming a reality?
