Here's how Matt Ryan's John Constantine will fit into Season 4 of Arrow

When it was officially announced that Matt Ryan’s John Constantine would be dusting off his trenchcoat to appear on the upcoming fourth season of Arrow, the internet literally s’ploded with pure, geeky joy.

And now we know a bit more as to how his appearance on the show will work.

IGN spoke with executive producer Wendy Mericle at the Television Critics Association press tour, and she gave some juicy intel into John Constantine's appearance on the fifth episode aptly titled "Haunted."

How will our occult detective cross paths with Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and the rest of the gang? As it so happens, he’ll be involved in the big whole Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) resurrection thing. Which'll of course include the Lazarus Pit -- of which John is an expert. As most of you will know, Sara was killed-off at the start of season three, but the character will be part of the upcoming spinoff, Legends of Tomorrow, with Lotz returning as Sara and her brand-new alter ego, White Canary.

Mericle said about Constantine’s role that "It was born more out of the storyline for Sara Lance. We needed someone to come in and help bring her back. He felt like the most exciting possibility and we’re just thrilled to get him. He brings such a different element to the show."

As to whether we’ll be getting THE John Constantine we’ve all come to know and love from the cancelled NBC series, Mericle said "Absolutely. He is coming in fully as who he was on the show. We’re getting wardrobe. We’re very excited to have him. He’s a tremendous actor. It’s so cool to have that cross-pollination. We are very lucky and DC was very generous letting us have him."

While I'm excited to see Matt Ryan reprise his Hellblazer role on Arrow (I absolutely loved Ryan’s portrayal of the DC character), I'm also bummed out by the fact that his appearance will be a one-off thing. At least for now. Wendy Mericle said "Right now, it really was -- it’s born out of necessity for this particular story. I think Mark was right, it is a one off and this is what we’re focusing on right now."

Are you guys looking forward to seeing Matt Ryan back as Constantine on Arrow
