Here’s the funnyman set to play LEGO Joker opposite Will Arnett’s LEGO Batman

We’re cautiously optimistic about Will Arnett’s return as LEGO Batman in a new spinoff film, but the direction they’re taking The Joker just elevated this thing to weird-awesome.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, funnyman Zach Galifianakis is in talks to play The Joker in the film. The Hangover alum would join Michael Cera, who recently signed on to voice The Dark Knight’s sidekick Robin, in rounding out the key cast. Arnett’s Batman stole the show in The LEGO Movie, and if they can actually assemble Cera and Galifianakis to flank him behind the scenes here, this could make for one very funny film.

The project is being produced by LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, along with Dan Lin and Roy Lee. Chris McKay, the animation supervisor from The LEGO Movie, is directing. The script was written by author-screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), which is admittedly about the only red flag here.

As for how Galifianakis might interpret Batman’s most famous and crazed foe? No clue. From Between Two Ferns to Birdman, he’s shown a penchant for shattering expectations with weird hilarity. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t dying to find out just how bizarre this could get in animated superhero form.

What do you think? Is this a good voice hire?
