The long-awaited sequel to the 1990s sci-fi classic doesn’t actually arrive until next year, but Goldblum (aka David Levinson) has dropped the first teaser via Facebook to help set the stakes for the aliens’ return. The teaser doesn’t include any actual footage, but is instead framed around the quote “We’re fighting for our right to live, to exist,” which is of course an excerpt from the famed presidential speech in the original film.
In addition to the teaser clip below, Goldblum has also used his newly minted Facebook page to debut the above set photo, which shows himself and co-star Liam Hemsworth with what appears to be a sci-fi fighter plane. If you’re interested in what might drop next, it could be worth the effort to follow Goldblum’s page.
Check out the teaser clip below:
The sequel will pick up in real time, approximately 20 years after the alien invasion from the first film. At this point, humanity will have banded together to use recovered alien tech to create a global defense initiative in case the aliens ever return. Despite the best efforts, it turns out humanity isn’t nearly as prepared as we’d thought. Cue Resurgence.
Independence Day Resurgence opens June 24, 2016.
