Ivan Reitman denies there's a second Ghostbusters movie in the works

If yesterday’s news that the male-centric Ghostbusters spinoff starring Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt was finally happening got you filled with geeky excitement, then this will feel like a cold, slime-filled shower.

Ghostbusters franchise producer Ivan Reitman denied screenwriter Drew Pearce’s claims that another movie was in development, insisting that there’s only one currently in the works: Paul Feig’s female-centric reboot starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.

In a statement to Uproxx: Reitman said:

"There has been a lot of excitement recently about what is happening with the Ghostbusters franchise. As the producer of the new Ghostbusters film, I feel the need to clarify. There is only one new Ghostbusters movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically. The rest is just noise."

Following the story that made the rounds online, Pearce took to Twitter to downplay his own comments (aka, dude has gotten ahead of himself), saying he’d only written a bible, and not a screenplay.

So there you have it. Are you as disappointed as I am by the news?

Paul Feig's Ghostbusters will hit movie theaters on July 22, 2016.
