TV vet joins Gotham...but is he a good cop or bad cop?

The Gotham PD is getting a little crowded. The upcoming second season will feature a new addition to the police force. This person may be a current friend but a future foe to Detective Gordon (Benjamin McKenzie), who already has his fair share of enemies.

According to TVLine, Michael Chiklis has joined Gotham as a series regular. The actor is a veteran TV star who knows a thing or two about playing a cop on screen. Chiklis previously headlined the shows The Commish (1991-1996) and FX's The Shield (2002-2008). He also played Ben Grimm/The Thing in  Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007).

On Gotham, Chiklis will portray Captain Nathaniel Barnes. He “lands on the GCPD like a tornado, ripping out the dead wood of Gotham’s police force." What does that mean? Well, he's described as "a law and order zealot; unafraid of making enemies – on either side of the law."

This could be good or bad news for Detective Gordon. For him, "Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon ... but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy.”

Gotham returns Sept. 25 on Fox.

What do you think of the Emmy-winning Chiklis joing Gotham?
