Pixar goes prehistoric in first full trailer for The Good Dinosaur

In the wake of Inside Out’s enormous critical success, Pixar is riding a wave of good vibes right into The Good Dinosaur. Now, we finally have our first good look at the prehistoric adventure.

The film is built around one simple question: What if the asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs had missed the planet, and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? From there, we meet an Apatosaurus named Arlo who makes an unlikely human friend in the form of a young cave boy. The duo set off on a journey to find their way home. OK, admittedly, they haven’t revealed too much about the actual plot, yet. But still, it’s Pixar — and it’s dinosaurs — so we’re intrigued.

The trailer mostly focuses on the friendship between Arlo and his new human pal, as they help each other out and face more dangerous dinosaurs and some stunning landscapes. If nothing else, this should make for one gorgeous film. Despite the 2+ minutes of footage here, it’s still hard to get a read on the vibe. It looks great, to be sure, but it feels more like an experimental Pixar short than a full-on feature.

The project itself has gone through a bit of behind the scenes drama over the years, with original director Bob Peterson ousted for co-director Peter Sohn. The release date has also been bouncing around since around late 2014, with the film currently eyeing a November 25 opening. We’re definitely intrigued, but we’ll need to see more to get a read on this one.
