Image of the Day: Feast your eyes upon Nicolas Cage as Superman

We've gotten glimpses through screen test images and clips, but now there's a full portrait online of Nicolas Cage in his complete Superman garb.

The new photo comes (via Villain Smash) from Jon Schnepp, director of the newly released documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? Schnepp's film chronicles the history of the abandoned 1998 film Superman Lives, which was to be directed by Tim Burton and starring Cage as the Man of Steel.

The movie was in development for several years and went through numerous changes and scripts until finally being shut down by the studio, Warner Bros. Pictures, mere weeks before production was slated to begin. Schnepp, fascinated with the story of the never-made film, crowdfunded his documentary and premiered it last week.

In addition to interviews with many of the personalities involved, including Burton and screenwriter Kevin Smith, the documentary is loaded with many images of production art and costume design, including the image that's just been released -- which is assumed to be as close to the final costume as the film came.
