Marvel alum Neal McDonough joins Arrow as Season 4's new big bad

As Arrow has evolved from a vigilante drama to a straight-up comic-book show over the course of three seasons, it's become an impressive showcase for DC Comics characters ranging from classic to somewhat obscure, and nowhere is that clearer than the roster of villains the series has delivered. So far we've seen everyone from Malcolm Merlyn to Deathstroke to Ra's al Ghul, and the list just keeps growing. Now we know that another villain will be joining the cast for Season 4.

Warner Bros. TV confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter today that Neal McDonough (shown above) will join Arrow as Damien Darhk, a character referenced earlier in the series but not yet seen, in the show's fourth season. You might know McDonough from his work in Band of BrothersMinority Report and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dum Dum Dugan, a role he reprised earlier this year for Agent Carter. So now he's claiming credits as both Marvel and DC Comics characters.

On Arrow, Darhk is set up as a former member of the League of Assassins who was expelled by the League and issued a death warrant after drawing the ire of Ra's al Ghul. In the Season 3 finale, he was apparently in Starling City, though we never saw his face. In the comics, Darhk is a genius criminal mastermind with access to incredibly advanced technology. He spent most of his comic-book time battling the Titans, and had ties to H.I.V.E., the criminal organization he seems poised to lead on Arrow. We don't yet know how big his role on the series will be, but with an actor like McDonough in the role, you have to expect big things.

Arrow returns in the fall.
