TV THIS WEEK: Humans premieres, Falling Skies returns, and more!

It's officially summer, and that means it's time for even more summer series to hit our TV lineup. This week, Under the Dome is back for Season 3, Atlantis is back for Season 2, and Humans premieres in the U.S. Plus, Salem's finale, a battle on Penny Dreaful, and more.

Check out the week in TV below. What's on your watchlist?

Highlights of the Week

Under the Dome (CBS) Thursday, 9 p.m. - "Move On" and "But I'm Not"

Season premiere! - Two years ago, Under the Dome was a summer TV success story, a perfect example of a network capitalizing on a light summer schedule to deliver an event series that viewers would devour. Now, summer series are pretty much a normal occurence, and Under the Dome is still among the biggest of them. That's not to say the show hasn't slipped a bit, though. In Season 1, the show dipped below 10 million live viewers only once, and in Season 2 the show never hit the 10 million mark at all, but it remained lucrative for CBS thanks to what was still a very large audience. Last season, people were already asking how long the show could sustain its rather ambitious premise, and there will no doubt be more of those questions this summer. For the moment, though, Under the Dome is poised to claim yet another big chunk of the summer audience. Check out a preview below.

Atlantis (BBC) Saturday, 9 p.m. - "A Fate Worse Than Death"

Season premiere! - When Atlantis premiered in the U.K. in 2013, it was the biggest new Saturday show the BBC had seen in nearly a decade, and a second season was quickly ordered. Season 2 didn't work out as well, though, and we've known it will be the last of the series since January. Still, that leaves American audiences with 12 episodes to enjoy before the show says goodbye, and it's bound to be a fun ride. This week, Pasiphae tries at all costs to stop the marriage between Ariadne and Jason. Check out a preview below.

Humans (AMC) Sunday, 9 p.m. - "Episode 1"

Series premiere! - AMC already has a genre hit on its hands with the horror juggernaut we call The Walking Dead, but this week it'll try its hand at sci-fi. Adapted from a Swedish series, and produced in the U.K., Humans tells the story of a world in which the latest tech toy everyone has to have isn't a smartphone or a tablet, but a Synth, an artificial human designed to be a kind of household servant, with very eerie similarities to "real" people. The show will explore what happens when Synths and humans keep interacting, and when the line between real and artifical gets blurred. It's a very lofty premise, and hopefully it'll produce a good show. Check out a preview below.

Falling Skies (TNT) Sunday, 10 p.m. - "Find Your Warrior"

Season premiere! - This week, after four years, five seasons and a lot of fighting, we get the beginning of the end for Falling Skies. When this show premiered it was a massive hit for TNT, earning nearly 6 million viewers with its series premiere and turning in consistently strong numbers pretty much ever since, but as ratings continued to slip below the heights of Season 1 and the story neared its end, it became clear that it was time to go. So, if you're a fan, you've got 10 episodes over the summer to enjoy, and then one of the biggest cable shows in recent history is gone. Check out a preview below.

Salem (WGN) Sunday, 10 p.m. - "The Witching Hour"

Season finale! - Last summer, Salem became WGN's first original programming success story, earning strong ratings and a Season 2 renewal halfway through its run. This season, the show launched an ambitious witch war, but we're still waiting to see if it was worth it. Season 1 of the show premiere in April and was renewed by mid-May, while Season 2 is ending this week and WGN has yet to make any decision. That doesn't mean the show is doomed, though. Live ratings have dipped, but the show keeps delivering strong DVR numbers, including a season premiere that a 150% spike in its 18-49 rating when Live+7 numbers were factored in. So we go into Salem's season finale with its fate uncertain, but there's hope. This week, Mary prepares for a last-ditch showdown with Countess Marburg. Check out a preview below.
