Rumor of the Day: The CW developing Hawkgirl spinoff from Arrow-verse

We already know The CW is getting ready to launch the third series in its DC universe next year with Legends of Tomorrow, but it sounds like that offshoot could be spawning its own spinoff. That’s right — we could be watching a fourth series in the Arrow-verse as early as next year.

According to a report at Spoiler TV, the network is in the “very early stages” of developing a Hawkgirl series, which would feature Legends of Tomorrow co-star Ciara Renée. We already got a brief peek at Hawkgirl via a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the season finale of The Flash, and she’s set to take on a major role in the time-traveling team-up series Legends in 2016. We haven’t seen much, but it seems the bigwigs at The CW have seen enough to consider this one a viable option.

One of the big things this development could represent? A prime-time series focused on a female hero, and one that’s digging deep into the comic canon, to boot. CBS’s upcoming Supergirl series (which put together an excellent pilot) is about the only one on the horizon, so a Hawkgirl series could be a welcome addition. We’d be leery of the network making a series with a winged warrior woman work, but heck, they made The Flash into one of the best shows on television — they’ve pretty much earned the benefit of the doubt at this point.

The brain trust at The CW has yet to stumble in regard to the shared universe developed between Arrow and The Flash, and Legends looks like it should also be a romp. So, yeah, we’re intrigued. So, how could this work in connection to Legends (in which Hawkgirl is a main character)? Who knows? But the creative team hasn’t been shy about shifting characters between shows, so it stands to reason Hawkgirl could star in both, right? Almost like a comic spinoff, where a character is part of (say) The Avengers series, and also stars in a standalone ‘book.

What do you think? Would you like to see Hawkgirl join the rest of DC heroes with her own series next year?
