Travel to an alternate history in the first teaser for Pixar's The Good Dinosaur

It's been nearly two years since we've seen a new film from Pixar Animation Studios, which might not be noteworthy if it weren't for the eight straight years of films that preceded this drought. In just a few weeks, Pixar returns with Inside Out, and the void will finally be filled, but to make up for lost time the studio's also dropping another film in 2015: The Good Dinosaur.

The Good Dinosaur was supposed to be the film that kept Pixar's eight-year streak of movie releases alive, but production issues (including replacing the film's original director) pushed the project's release date back from the spring of 2014 to the fall of 2015. Now, along with Inside Out, it'll make a different kind of history for Pixar by making 2015 the first year in which the studio has released two feature films. We've been seeing a lot of Inside Out over the last few weeks, so much so that we almost forgot The Good Dinosaur was coming. Now the first teaser trailer is here to remind us.

The film follows Arlo (Raising Hope's Lucas Neff), the titular good dinosaur, who's on a quest to get home after an accident leads him far astray, and while we trust that Pixar could make an exciting film that's only about that quest, there's a twist: This film takes place in a world where the asteroid that obliterated the dinosaurs misses Earth altogether. The dinosaurs never went extinct, which means they get to exist alongside cavemen, including one that will help Arlo on his quest.

The first teaser does little more than introduce this premise in a very dramatic way and give us some nice looks at dinosaur designs, including Arlo himself, but that doesn't mean it's not impressive. Check it out:

If that wasn't enough to convince you, the film's voice cast is among the best Pixar's ever assembled. In addition to Neff, it includes John Lithgow (3rd Rock from the Sun), Frances McDormand (Fargo), Judy Greer (Archer), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live). That's a lot of talent packed into this movie.

The Good Dinosaur hits theaters Nov. 25, 2015.
