Barry Allen is getting his own 'Felicity' love interest in Season 2 of The Flash

The CW’s Flash took a few pages from the Arrow playbook, then took off running and arguably became a better show. Well, the playbook is coming back out.

TV Line is reporting the producers have put out a casting call for a character that is described as “Think ‘Felicity Smoak’ from Arrow.” Hmm. The character is named Wendy, and she's described as a “spunky, fun and funny” romantic interest for Barry. She’ll be introduced in a major recurring role as a new officer at the Central City Police Department. She’s also described as bright and scientific-minded.

Considering we’re only in year two of this series, it makes sense they’d hold off a bit on (potentially) putting Barry (Grant Gustin) and his longtime crush Iris (Candice Patton) together. It’s already been implied, due to time-travel shenanigans, that Barry and Iris will end up together in the future, at some point. Not to mention the fact that the couple are often married in the comic canon.

As for how it’ll work in execution? It might not be a bad move, honestly. The Season 1 finale saw  Iris’s almost-fiancee, Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett), heroically sacrifice himself to stop the Reverse-Flash, just moments after Iris and Eddie decided to throw destiny to the wind and make a go of it. Iris will almost certainly need some time to deal with that loss, and considering pretty much every relationship he’s had to date has ended badly, Barry deserves a bit of fun.

Now, let the great debate begin between Iris and Caitlin ‘shippers, before we add Wendy to the mix.
