Alex Kingston says that River Song is not done on Doctor Who

The last time we saw River Song (Alex Kingston) on Doctor Who, it was in "The Name of the Doctor" back in 2013, where her consciousness from the Library computer ("Silence in the Library"/"Forest of the Dead") was summoned by the leader of the Paternoster Gang -- and the Doctor's friend -- the Silurian Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh). The reason? A cool, psychic conference call. There, Melody Pond River learned that the Doctor’s (Matt Smith) greatest secret had been uncovered, and she decided to maintain a psychic link with the Doctor’s companion, Clara (Jenna Coleman), in order to help Souffle Girl with the discovery of the Doctor’s Tomb.

When our beloved Mad Man in the Big Blue Police Box and his companions found themselves threatened by the Great Intelligence, River whispered the Doctor’s name to open his tomb. Soon after, Clara entered our beloved Time Lord’s timey-wimey timeline, where the Impossible Girl saved him over and over again. In an emotional scene, the Doctor then revealed he could actually see River, but he’s been pretending not to see her all along because her continued existence (as a consciousness inside the Library computer) was much too painful to him. After talking, husband and wife shared one last kiss, and River faded away, feeling some sort of closure. THE END. But you guys know we’re talking about Doctor Who here, right? So there’s hope we’ll get to see River again ... and the actress seems to be leaning that way too.

Speaking at Mega-con, Alex Kingston has hinted that River Song could return alongside Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor. "All I can say is ... spoilers! But what I will say is the sonic screwdriver that I had in Silence in the Library, which had been given to me by the Doctor, is not the sonic screwdriver that has been seen ... yet." Girl's got a point there! The screwdriver we saw was a modified version of the one the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) used, and we have yet to see our Time Lord show up at her door with a new suit and a new haircut and give it to her. The screwdriver, that is.

Kingston added, "I haven’t been told I’m done [on the show]." And if she were to meet Capaldi’s Doctor? How would she react to him? "Well, River’s dealt with a lot of Doctor’s faces in the past, so I don’t think that it would be a surprise to her." Do you think we'll ever get to see River Song on Doctor Who again? Would you like to?
