Watch the first trailer for crowdfunded, alumni-filled Star Trek series Renegades

Star Trek has been off the air since Enterprise was canceled in 2005 (just when it had started to soar), and fans like us are pining for a new show. We're getting the first glimpses of a potential new show, Renegades, thanks to the trailer for an upcoming pilot, below. But it's not coming from CBS. It's coming from former Star Trek stars.

Tim Russ, the man formerly known as Voyager's Tuvok, has directed the pilot for Star Trek: Renegades, a potential series about former criminals who can work outside of the Federation's jurisdiction in order to save its dwindling supply of dilithium crystals. Russ will appear in front of the camera as well. Joining him are Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov, Star Trek) and fellow Voyager alumni Robert Picardo (Dr. Zimmerman), Richard Herd (Admiral Paris) and Manu Intiraymi (Icheb).

Other cast members include Sean Young (Blade Runner), Edward Furlong (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and Adrienne Wilkinson (Xena: Warrior Princess).

Russ and his team crowdfunded Star Trek: Renegades on both Kickstarter and Indiegogo, because, as they posted to their Indiegogo page, "We want to present CBS with the absolute best, highest quality, professional product we can create."

As you can see, the money was well spent. Will the Star Trek: Renegades pilot be beaming to our televisions? We don't know. But we can hope this pilot gets to warp speed as a television series.

Note: Renegades currently has no release date. Check out the website for more details as they're revealed.
