Bamf! Bryan Singer teleports our first official look at Nightcrawler in X-Men: Apocalypse

Bryan Singer has unveiled our first official look at Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler in X-Men: Apocalypse. So, how does he look?

(Now, click here to see the cool video Singer posted of our favorite "fuzzy elf" over on Twitter.)

Smit-McPhee plays Kurt Wagner, aka the blue-skinned teleporting mutant Nightcrawler, in X-Men: Apocalypse, which started production in Montreal today. In a recent interview with Den of Geek, the young actor revealed that it would not be the same Nightcrawler we saw portrayed by Alan Cumming in 2003’s X2, but one that is much closer to the comics:

"I think I’m really going to make it my own because it is kind of going back and its seeing the younger character," Smit-McPhee said. "I realize the Nightcrawler that is portrayed in X2 is one that has been through quite a bit more and has really embraced the superhero part of him—a kind of violent part. Whereas I think what they’re trying to show here is the more vulnerable Nightcrawler and the one we all kind of related to in the comics. It’s really the fun, happy, swashbuckling Nightcrawler that we all love, so I really can’t wait to portray that. He’s just very vulnerable and truthful, and grounded in his faith. I think it’s something new though that we’ll see. But as I said, all of the traditional things that we want in it—it’s still there. Hint, hint."

Does this mean that this Nightcrawler will be Mystique’s (Jennifer Lawrence) son in Bryan Singer’s upcoming movie? I certainly hope so. What do you think? Are you looking forward to see Kodi Smit-McPhee in the role? X-Men: Apocalypse will teleport in movie theaters on May 27, 2016.
