Fox just picked up the feature film rights to this extremely cool sci-fi short

The short film medium continues to be a proving ground for young filmmakers, and here’s the latest buzzy sci-fi project getting a shot at big-screen glory.

According to Deadline, Fox has snagged the film rights to the short film Controller, which will be written by Alev Aydin, based on a concept written by Saman Kesh. The story aims to put a new spin on the damsel-in-distress story, where an imprisoned woman with psychic powers takes over her boyfriend’s mind and uses him to stage her rescue. The story is touted as a “modern love story draped in blood.”

This looks like it could be one heck of a fun project to see realized on the big screen, especially with an expanded script and solid budget. It’s also a surprisingly cool concept, and assuming it survives the development process, would be a welcome break from remake and sequel-itis. Plus, the action shots are extremely cool.
