It looks like the Wonder Woman movie has hit a roadblock

Wonder Woman will be the first solo outing for the DC character, and will feature Gal Gadot in the title role. With a director in place, we really thought the movie was in the clear, but now there's been a setback. The film has lost a major part of its creative team.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wonder Woman no longer has a director. Michelle MacLaren has officially left the project. So, what happened? Warner Bros. released a pretty generic statement regarding MacLaren's reason for leaving. "Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together." Some rumors about specifics have been circulated by Badass Digest, including clashes between McLaren and WB over the time period in which the film would be set, and some choices that could have potentially alienated existing fans (a tiger sidekick, for example).

There was much rejoicing, for the most part, when MacLaren first took the gig -- many fans were excited to see a strong female director stepping up to tell Diana's story. Now it seems like it's back to square one. Hopefully, whoever they hire really cares about Wonder Woman and her legacy.

Despite the shakeup, the film's still slated for a 2017 release.

Who do you think should direct the Wonder Woman movie?
