The Captain Marvel movie might've just found a pair of (very good) writers

Sure, we’re looking forward to Black Panther and Ant-Man, but one of the most exciting films on Marvel’s slate is Captain Marvel — and here’s who might be writing the company’s first female hero tentpole.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is close to signing two writers who will team up to script the big-screen debut of Carol Danvers. Nicole Perlman (co-writer of Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (co-writer of Pixar’s Inside Out) are reportedly on the company’s short list. We obviously know Perlman did a bang-up job with Guardians, and buzz is pretty high for Inside Out, so these seem like solid options. A deal isn’t in place yet, but negotiations are well underway.

The two apparently had some awesome pitches for the story, so Marvel decided to team them up in hopes they’d get something even better with both women on the job. It may seem obvious, but it’s encouraging to see Marvel taking aim at two of the hottest female writers on the market to give this one its skeleton and voice.

No director is attached at this point, though it seems former Wonder Woman director Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad) is apparently back on the market. Hey, stranger things have happened.

Marvel is aiming to release Captain Marvel on July 6, 2018.
