Watch The Flash cast members sing the Firefly theme song a capella

The cast of The CW’s The Flash got together to sing an a cappella version of "The Ballad of Serenity," the theme song from director Joss Whedon’s acclaimed sci-fi series Firefly.

Jesse L. Martin, Carlos Valdes and Rick Cosnett belted out the tune as a thank you to Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon. If you’re wondering why, it’s because they’re working on a short musical flick titled The Letter Carrier. They were trying to raise some funds on Kickstarter when Whedon came in and donated enough cash for them to reach their goal. In exchange, the trio decided to sing the song as a thank-you to the Buffy and Firefly creator. Isn’t this super sweet? Have a look:

Here’s the plot for the story:

A mother hides her family from slavery in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The children have grown up with a tale of a man known as The Letter Carrier. As the legend goes, he roams the mountains looking for children to sell as slaves. Painted against this historical backdrop, it is a raw, mysterious, and interpretive fable. Told through a cappella song, using original folk music, spirituals and a score using only natural sounds.
