Here's the next actor wanted for Gareth Edwards' Star Wars: Rogue One

Two weeks ago, after months of speculation, we finally got our first official details about the Star Wars spinoff film from director Gareth Edwars (Godzilla). The flick is titled Rogue One, a name that's already flared up plenty of speculation online, and will star Oscar nominee Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything). At this point, that's really all we know for sure about the film, but now that the first official details from Lucasfilm have been revealed, we know there have to be more on the way, and this week we got another: Jones' co-star.

The Wrap reports that Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn is "being sought" to join Jones in the film for an unspecified role. You might not know the name, but you've definitely seen Mendelsohn. He's been acting for three decades but first broke big with American audiences with the 2010 crime drama Animal Kingdom. Since then, he's appeared in numerous memorable roles in indie films and Hollywood blockbusters, including The Dark Knight RisesKilling Them SoftlyThe Place Beyond the Pines, and Exodus: Gods and Kings. He recently debuted as the black sheep brother in the Netflix family drama/thriller Bloodline (pictured above), which premiered last week.

Disney has declined to comment on the report, so we still don't know how close this is to being a done deal, but Mendelsohn's a fantastic character actor who could be a powerful presence with the right Star Wars role, so we're hoping to see this turn into a break for him. We're also hoping that this is a sign of even more Rogue One news to come, because even with The Force Awakens on the horizon, we're really, really curious about this flick.

Star Wars: Rogue One hits theaters Dec. 16, 2016.
